On the 29th January, Amazon unveiled a brand new office which appeared to look more like a spaceship than a place of work! The incredible domed building, aptly named The Sphere, is situated in the heart of Seattle and is home to more than 40,000 plants, making up more than 400 different species. To eliminate excessive heat being produced, the three domes that make up the building containing over 2,000 individual glass panels.

A great number of the plants within the Sphere are native to mountainous regions of tropical countries where temperatures can reach even cooler than ground level. Amazon stated that 'the sound of water running through the building and the smell of blossoming flowers will inspire creativity and perhaps even improve brain function.'

The building was officially opened by Jeff Bezos using Alexa, Amazon's voice-command software. Speaking about the much anticipated building, Amazon's vice president of global real estate and facilities John Schoettler said, “Our goal with The Spheres was to create a unique gathering place where employees could collaborate and innovate together, and where the Seattle community could gather to experience biodiversity in the centre of the city,”
