Plant of the Month - Ficus Tree

The tanning lotion is out and finally, the UK is starting to see a bit of sunshine! All this time spent outdoors has found people rekindling their love of nature so we thought now would be the perfect time to announce our July's Plant of the Month! This time, we're focusing on the beautiful Ficus Tree.

A member of the pan-tropical ficus genus which includes plants such as the fig and rubber trees, this woody tree is a very popular choice for offices due to its attractive shape and adaptability. It is most commonly known as ficus however it’s technically a weeping fig tree.

Ficuses maintain their tree-like shape regardless of size, making them a perfect choice as tiny bonsais for your desk or huge trees in a reception area. A sun loving plant, the ficus best enjoys bright but indirect sunlight and high humidity. This can be achieved by lightly misting or placing the tree in a pebble tray with water, but don’t worry, Funky Yukka will take care of all of this for you!

The plants within the Ficus Genus also hold spiritual significance to a number of cultures and religions, including Buddhism and Hinduism. In fact, the oldest known living tree used for planting was a Ficus Religa which was named Sri Maha Bodhi and was planted in the temple of Anuradhapura by King Tissa in 200BCE.
